WRC cars at Rally Finland

I had chance to go to do some photography at Neste Oil Rally Finland 2011. Photos here are edited in Photoshop CS5, but I have not added or removed any object from picture. I have only played with some contrast and color tools. Each of these three photos is from different days.

Shooting sports event without photo pass to that event is hard work. You got to be on your place where you want to take your shoots very early. While shooting motor sport without photo pass it is also important to follow rules that are on place for spectators. You will not want to be the reason why they need to cancel some special stages. It will be sometimes hard to accept the fact that professional photographers will have different rules. They will get better angels for their photos from time to time, but by taking your time and drive the route beforehand there will be some good places for photographers that are not in place for assignment.

I was on this event with my friends and we also found out that sometimes there is big difference where you would like to watch rally and where you want to photograph rally. What I mean? Normally as spectator you would like to see rally car as long as possible. Seeing rally car long is big plus for photographer also, but at least for me that is not very high on my priority. For me best place to photograph rally is as close as possible, low and at some kind of a turn where even still image can give a sense of speed to viewer.
